Green Party of TN Awarded Ballot Line for 2014!

Written by admin on . Posted in Uncategorized

Green Party of TN received great news recently (3/17) when, in our 3rd win in the courts, Chief District Judge William J. Haynes, Jr. ruled in the Green Party’s favor in our lawsuit Green Party of TN vs Hargett. On one claim, the judge ruled the TN law saying minor parties must receive 5% of the vote in particular races in one election cycle to retain ballot access, when the major political parties are allowed 2 election cycles, is unconstitutional. This gives us a ballot line in 2014. To keep the ballot line for the next presidential year, 2016, the party must receive at least 5% of the vote in either the U.S. Senate race against Alexander, or the Governor’s race against Haslam. We are stepping up with a great candidate for Governor, Isa Infante. With your help we can reach our 5% goal and enter the 2016 election cycle stronger than ever. The process takes time and the Green Party of Tennessee is in it for the long run.

The Ruling is in! We Won!

The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Aug. 9th in favor of the Green Party of Tennessee! U.S. District Court in Tennessee struck down the state’s ballot access law for newly-qualifying parties. The court ordered the State of Tennessee to put the Green Party on the ballot for the November 6th election relieving them of all petition requirements. The Green Party candidates are listed on the state website.

The U.S. District Court also called for a public drawing to determine the order candidates are placed on the ballot. Surveys show voters choose the first name more frequently than other placement if they don’t have a strong preference for a candidate. Being first on the ballot can determine the results as we saw in the Democrat’s U.S. Senate race last week. The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against us there allowing the two largest parties the best spots on the ballot.

That’s okay! We’re on! See the ruling here: Link to the court order
